TYPES OF SWIM MEETS

There are three classifications of meets:

1)  Team Meets- Meets which are attended by DST swimmers who qualify for that particular meet. Coaches will be on deck for every meet session.

Each practice group has their own meet schedule.  A schedule of team meets is available at the beginning of each season (short course and long course). This list includes meets that the coaches would like all eligible team members to attend.  The coaches feel that approximately one meet per month is beneficial for most swimmers. The DST office will provide you with all the necessary information for team meets. Any questions should be addressed to Clark Bickling at clarkb@freestyles.org or Kathy Drysdale at kathyd@freestyles.org

2)  Hosted Meets- A meet that DST is hosting.  ALL parents are expected to help at these meets.  As the host club, we are expected to provide ALL the workers and officials.  While they involve a great deal of work, these meets provide DST with the opportunity to have meets “close to home,” for the convenience of our families, while raising funds, thus allowing us to keep our team prices extremely competitive. All hosted meets are “Team Meets.”

3)  Non-Team Meets- There are many meets available to any USA swimmer.  Meet information is available on either the Middle Atlantic or United States Swimming Web Sites. Non-team meets include any meet not promoted by or attended by our coaching staff.

Attending Non-team meets is not encouraged.  DST coaches will not be in attendance, nor does it promote a “team” environment. We do, however, realize that on an occasional basis, a swimmer may feel it necessary to attend a non-team meet.  The DST Office, through the coaches, must do all meet entries. This is done for four reasons:

1) Coaches need to be aware of which meets our swimmers are participating.

2) Most meet directors do not like individual hand entries from a team –

they prefer a disk entry, which DST will submit. This also ensures

that the swimmers’ best times are submitted for entry.

3) Most meet information limits entries to one per team. If swimmers were to

enter meets on an individual basis, there could be the occasion where

more than one DST entry would be submitted for a particular meet.

            4) Allows for DST to obtain meet results for inclusion in the team data

base.

Non-team Meet Entries must be submitted to the DST office 2 weeks prior to the entry due date, along with a copy of the full meet information.  Attached to the entry must be payment for the swimmers events and a $10.00 per swimmer administrative processing fee.

If a swimmer chooses to attend a non-team meet and not process their entry through the team office, they must swim “Unattached” and not represent DST. Swimmers times will not be added to the DST database.
