- DELAWARE STATE MEET:
o Good Luck to all our swimmers competing at the Delaware State Swimming Championships this weekend. The meet will be held at the University of Delaware’s Carpenter Sports Building from Friday 11/27 through Sunday 11/29. Here are some details that may be important for our families in attendance.
§ Parking: UD Public Safety is aware of the State Meet and the team does not foresee a problem with parking tickets. Parking is located across the railroad tracks on the opposite of the street from CIP. Additional parking is available in the garage at the end of Main St.
§ Volunteers: DST needs your help! In order for the Delaware State Meet to run smoothly and successfully a strong contingent of volunteers is a must. Please contact Kathy Minka, kathym@freestyles.org, for you preferred worker assignment.
§ Warm-up: DST, as host of the meet, will be warming up in the first time slot, at the beginning of each session. All coaches and swimmers should be on the pool deck and ready to warm-up 10 minutes prior to the posted warm-up time.
§ What to bring: As host team, DST is responsible for providing the hospitality area for coaches, officials, and meet volunteers. We ask for team members to donate the following items:
· 13 & over Boys: Bagels or Donuts
· 13 & over Girls: Soda or Water
o We have an abundance of water at this time, so we request canned soda if possible.
· 8 & under Boys: Desserts
· 8 & under Girls: Soda or Water
o We have an abundance of water at this time, so we request canned soda if possible.
· 9-12 Boys: Desserts
· 9-12 Girls: Salad or Side dish.
§ Team State Meet T-shirts: Swimmers who were not in attendance or did not receive the team shirt at last weekends Pep Rally can pick up their shirt at the meet.
§ Food and Drink: The University does not permit Food or Drinks on the pool deck.
§ What am I swimming? We ask that parents go over the events a swimmer is competing in before they come to the meet each day. It is important that each swimmer understand what they have in store. Writing event #, heat, and lane on your child’s hand is very helpful for the staff and the swimmer.
§ Relays: Relays will be posted on the deck at the beginning of each session. Swimmers who attended last weekends Pep Rally were informed of this procedure. The staff makes every effort to include as many swimmers as possible for relays. Please be sure your child has checked, double checked, and tripled checked with a coach regarding their participation in relays before they leave. Keep in mind that a relay swimmer leaving a session before the relay competes often leaves 3 children disappointed.
