Good afternoon everyone,

Here what’s going on this week at the Delaware Swim Team …

-         THE FLU:

o       Much has been written recently regarding the Flu and the H1N1 (swine flu) virus. With several confirmed cases locally, the staff deemed it necessary to issue the following recommendations to members:

§         Keep sick swimmers home. If someone in your home is sick, keep them away from those who are not sick. We understand that many swimmers and parents truly do not like to miss practice, but, please keep in mind that exposing other swimmers to sickness is not appropriate.

§         Seek the guidance of a healthcare provider if you experience the following symptoms-coughing, fever, sore throat, body aches, vomiting and diarrhea, stuffy nose, chills, headache.

§         The facilities of the Delaware Swim Team test water chemistry in each pool hourly. Pool chemicals are kept in such a way as to comply with Delaware Board of Health Public Bathing standards. Such standards are set in part, to kill all germs and bacteria in the water.

§         For more information on the N1H1 virus visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/swineflu. If you a question on this or any subject please contact the DST office.

-         DELAWARE STATE MEET:

o       Here is a meet information update:

§        DST team meet info will be distributed this week

§         A New Championship:

·        DST is proud to announce that in addition to the traditional State Championship, which is awarded to the Team High Point winner, a Heat Winner State Championship will now be given to the club which captures the greatest number of single heat victories. This award has been created to promote exciting competition at every level of the meet.

·         Each heat winner will receive a bag tag in the shape of the number 1, with Delaware State Meet Heat Winner printed on it. In the event of a tie, all swimmers involved will be awarded a tag.

·         Each heat win will count as one point towards your total team score. Traditional 1st through 16th scoring will not play a factor in the scoring for this award. In the event of a tie, the single point will be divided and awarded to the teams involved.

·         At the conclusion of the meet, the club with the highest score (number of heat victories) will be awarded a Delaware State Meet- Team Heat Winner State Champion Banner.
