DST SWIMMER PRIDE
Congratulations to our swimmers that have made big splashes at our recent meets.

September Splash
DST had a great showing again at the September Splash open water races.
13 swimmers did the "daily double" and competed in both the 1 mile and 2 mile swims.  In the 2 mile Sean Minderlein finished 1st overall in a time of 33:14 and Alex Hampel took 3rd male with a time of 34:06. In the females race, Nicole Vernon won with a time of 33:48, Kaitlyn Jones tooks 2nd female with a time of 34:40, and Delaney Fox took 3rd female with a time of 36:12. Jarrettt Short was DST's only competitor in the mile and he won his age group. In the mile Sean Minderlein finished 1st overall with a time of 17:23, and Josh Satre took 3rd male with a time of 17:55. In the females Nicole Vernon was 1st with a time of 17:40, Kaitlyn Jones was 2nd female with a time of 18:47, and Brooke Saunders was 3rd female with a time of 19:25. DST's age group winners included Liam Oneill, Nicholas Perkucin, Brett Saunders, Jaclyn Harkins, Lily Dubroff, Coach Kathy, and Coach Jocelyn. Congratulations to all the competitors! You made DST proud!

Eastern Zone All-Star Championships
Congratulations to those Delaware Swim Team members who competed at the Eastern Zone All-Star Championships at Penn State University. Those competing included Lily Dubroff, Emily Pfeifer, and Liam O’Neil. Top 16 results included Emily Pfeifer (16th) in the 100 fly and Lily Dubroff, (5th) in the 100 Fr,
(14th) 50 Br, and (11th) in the 200 Fr.

U.S. Open
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Jones and Katie Rechsteiner who competed in the
U.S. Open in Federal Way, Washington. Competing against a field made up mostly of collegiate and foreign swimmers, our young swimmers did very well. Finals swims included Kaitlyn’s 200 back, 15th place, with a time of 2:17. 86, and Katie’s 200 Breaststroke, placing 20th with a time of 2:33.52. Congratulations to both swimmers on a job well done. Both these swims were under the 2008 Olympic Trial Cut standard!

Florida Senior Challenge
What a great meet!  A fast meet, yet not over packed…our 18 DST swimmers fared well, going back for about 65 night time swims! Top 10 finishers included: Corinne Lampe (200 Fly); Nick Perkucin (1500 Free); Clifton Gordon (400 IM, 100 Back); Katie Steeves (400 IM, 200 Fly, 200 Breast); Sean Minderlein (400 IM, 400, 800, & 1500 Freestyle); and Eric Materniak (400 IM, 200 IM, 200 Fly, 200 Breast, 100 Breast).  Podium Swimmers finishing in 3rd place were Clifton Gordon (400 IM) and Sean Minderlein (800 & 1500 Freestyle). DST team records were broken by Clifton Gordon (100 Fly) and Tyler Early (100 Free). We hope to make this meet a recurring trip!!!!

LAC Speedo Classic
Congratulations to all the DST swimmers that swam in the LAC Speedo Classic. Special congratulations to the swimmers that had top 3 finishes in the A, BB, C division including, Michael Barboun, Jacob Stare, Nathan Satre,  Kelly Blake, Lily Dubroff. Overall event winners were Lily Dubroff (200 IM, 100 BR, 50BK, 100 FL) and Jacob Satre (100 FR).

RAC/ASC July Long Course Meet
Congratulations to those swimmers that competed in the RAC/ASC July Long Course Meet, held this weekend on the campus of UMBA. Special congratulations to the following swimmers with top three (3) finishes Jordan Carey, Annie Nunes, Madison Runge, Calli Marando, Cierra Runge, Sarah Braatz, Kaci McIlmoyle, and Joshephine Marsh.

Event winners included, Katie Rechsteiner (100BR), Cierra Runge (200 FR, 400 IM, 50 FR, 100 BK, 400 FR, 100 FR, 200 BK), Jordan Carey (200 FR), Madison Runge (200 FR, 100 FL, 200 IM, 50 FR, 50 FL, 100 FR), and Annie Nunes (200 IM).

Summer Solstice
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in the
Summer Solstice. Special Congratulations go out to Andrew Gemmell, Cecily Gordon, Kaitlyn Jones, Eric Materniak, Ivan Michalovic, Sean Minderlein, Haley Novak, Liam O’Neil, Katie Rechsteiner, Molly Riley, Madison Runge, Brett Saunders, and Nicole Vernon, for finishing in the top three. Event winners included Andrew Gemmell (400 FR, 400 IM, 800 FR) Cecily Gordon (200 Fly), Kaitlyn Jones (200 IM), Eric Materniak (100 BR, 200 FL, 200 Br), Haley Novak (400 IM), Liam O’Neil (100 FR), Molly Riley (200 IM), Madison Runge (50 Fly), and Nicole Vernon (400 IM). Five Meet records were broken by Delaware Swim Team members, Andrew Gemmell (800 FR, 400 IM), Kaitlyn Jones (200 IM), Eric Materniak (200 BR), and Nicole Vernon (400 IM
). Kaitlyn Jones also broke her own DST team record in 200 Free.  NICE JOB!!!!!

USA Open Water Championships

Congratulations to Andrew Gemmell & Nicole Vernon for their successes at the USA Open Water Championships in Fort Myers, Florida!!
Both Andrew & Nicole finished 3rd in the 5K…But, the 10K was the important race of the meet. Nicole finished in 6th place, earning a place on the National Team, and as such will be competing in the 10K at the FINA World Cup Meet in Quebec, Canada later this summer.
Andrew finished 2nd, which not only earned him a spot on the National Team, but also secured his place on the USA World Championship Team.  He will forego the World Cup meet in lieu of a trip to Rome, where he will be one of two men representing the USA in both the 5K & 10K at the 2009 World Championships!!!

Maryland Long Course Championships
Congratulations to all the swimmers that competed in the Maryland Long Course Championships this past weekend. Special congratulations to Madison Runge, Cierra Runge, Haley Novak, Shannon Foreman, Justin Carey, Jordan Carey, Bryan Panaccione, and Keenan Aungst for their top 3 finishes. Event winners included Madison Runge (50 Fly), Cierra Runge (200 Free, 400 Free, 200 IM), Justin Carey (50 Fly), and Bryan Panaccione (50 Fly).
Derby Fish Meet
Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in the Derby Fish Meet. Special congratulations to
Captain Pi (David Crossland), Rushin Russian (Ivan Michalovic), Sassy Girl (Emily Pfeifer), Big, Big Brett (Brett Saunders), and Snickers (Brooke Saunders) for placing in the top 5 in their respective events. Emily Pfeifer won the girls 10 & under 400 free, and 100 breast!
